Music vs. Photography

Music plays a huge role in my life, and it has affected my photography as well. By music I don't mean the music played during the take of a picture, but the music listened to around the time.

A year ago, my musical tastes were so distinct that if I were to listen to the style I listen to now, I would have been upset last year to know this is what I've come too haha

I started listening to the indie/alternative genre this year, and not only has it changed the the perspectives and styles in which I take pictures, but it has added a certain uniqueness.

As time goes on and the music I listen to change, I'm positive so will my photography.

But for the moment, I'm greatly influenced by these guys: Vampire Weekend, Phoenix, Morning Benders, and the xx

What do you listen to?

  1. I agree with Vampire Weekend. I have to admit I became in a sort of... Delays' fan. That's it.

And, being the good fan I am, I can't stop but recommend Newton Faulkner, Eddie Vedder and The Coral. I'd suggest you to give a try to Famasloop, Circo Vulkano (very experimental and genre mixers, I love that) and Jorge Drexler, though these three are spanish speakers.

  2. I agree with this entire post. When I hear a lyric I like, I base my photographs off of it. I have no specific artists this happens with, but any song I like, I'll relate my photos to. It's not only certain artists.

The mood of the song influences my photos too. If it's sad, I try and portray sadness in my emotions. If it's happy, I try and make them happy.

  3. I'm a very visual person so I tend to be more inspired by things I've seen rather than things I've heard, but I really want to start making photos based on specific lyrics! I think it's always interesting to see how different people interpret certain lyrics. :)

  4. Well, I'm very inspired by music.
I listen to Alternative ROck (R.E.M., Muse and Nirvana) and, it depends on what music I listen to on that moment, what modd I'm in.

When I'm angry, I always pick Nirvana, or the Accelerate and Monster album from R.E.M. (And Oranger Crush Wiesbaden 2003 version)

Most of the time, I use the sound of the music as an inspriation, not the lyrics ;)
